Technical & Regulatory Affairs Assistant, Bespoke Drinks Business, 20hr p/wk, Nr Sevenoaks, £26k FTE*.

Our client is a bespoke drinks business with big ambitions. They create and distribute their unique product to a wide array of customers of various sizes all over the world. With 30 staff and purpose built facilities, they offer a totally unique and bespoke service to their customers and their passion for their high quality product comes through in everything they do. They are currently seeking a part-time Technical and Regulatory Affairs Assistant to join their friendly team in Sevenoaks.

The Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will assess the legality of incoming ingredients and packaging materials to ensure they are compliant with UK/ EU regulations. Assistance may be required if selling into foreign markets and reviewing the legality of such products. Also assisting with technical matters within the Operations team from specifications and quality systems, risk assessments, client questionnaires, raw material approvals, food safety, and compliance.

Provision of advice to colleagues on scientific, technological and regulatory developments, in all aspects of food safety.
Support the Operations Manager and Purchasing Manager with conducting food safety audits/supplier questionnaire approvals, associated quality systems, supplier risk assessments, technical research relating to supplier and raw material approvals.
Support the Operations Manager with day to day technical requirements including quality assurance, food safety and quality systems.
Review ingredient specifications to ensure that they are within legal limits for the intended market, for all legislated parameters including allergens, nutritional data (where appropriate), microbiology, pesticides, heavy metals and other contaminants.
Collaborating with quality systems – including regulatory support and advice associated with the introduction of new products and the maintenance of agreed standards.
Ensuring high standards of quality and health and safety at all times.
Supporting internal testing programme to include all nutritional, micro, allergen, environmental and water testing, ensuring results are assessed, trended and communicated.
Answering internal queries, participating and contributing in leading projects to ensure a high level of customer service. Having an input on artwork from pack copy to approval, adhering not only to regulatory requirements, but also corporate policies. Carrying out research on regulatory developments in various countries and other markets which may be of interest to the business.
If requested check labels comply with UK / EU labelling regulations, including the layout and presentation of all mandatory information. If sold into a foreign country, assist with researching the relevant legislation in that territory and review the ingredient, product or label as appropriate.
Assist the business in other regulatory and compliance tasks as required, such as monitoring regulatory developments, assisting with updates to the internal specifications and quality systems and liaising with clients, suppliers, trade associations, government agencies a design houses/printers.

The Candidate

A food manufacturing, food science/technology, chemistry, biology or law qualification.
Knowledge of UK / EU food regulations, particularly the Food Information to Consumers Regulations and regulations relating to product quality control.
Strong ability to manage a diverse workload and a wide range of issues.
You must be proactive, analytical, detailed, diligent and be an individual who strives to meet the requirements of the role on time.
Good communication skills both written and verbal.
Ability to work well as part of a team but ability to work independently with initiative.
IT literate with good experience of Word, PowerPoint and Excel is essential.

Terms

20 hours per week (4 hours per day)
Salary £26k FTE (pro-rated for the hours worked).
Office based near Sevenoaks
