The Commercial Services Group works closely with the firm’s other commercial teams acting for clients ranging from start-up companies to large institutions, including UK and overseas private and public companies.

The purpose of this role is to provide an efficient corporate and commercial service capability for our client in line with an emerging opportunity to be a lead provider of these services to new and existing clients. The post-holder will be working with the partners in the team to increase the volume of instructions on the corporate side of the practice, and to expand their commercial offering to SME and larger businesses in the Thames Valley. Experience of working in this market will be beneficial, though not essential. There will also be the opportunity to work on distressed sales and acquisitions as they are building their insolvency practice through the recent addition of an insolvency partner to the team.

Key Responsibilities
1. Providing additional strength and depth to the existing team by supporting the partners with more complex corporate and commercial work and supervising the more junior members of the team working within the following areas of work:

(a) Corporate including:

Mergers & Acquisitions
Corporate Finance
Corporate Advisory
Private Equity
Joint Ventures
Reorganisations
Insolvency and Reconstruction
(b) General Commercial including:

Terms & Conditions
GDPR Advice
Supply Agreements
Franchise Agreements
Secured and Unsecured Lending
General banking matters

2. Providing support to other teams such as real estate, employment, commercial litigation and construction to include working with other teams on larger cross disciplinary projects as and when required.

3. Being responsible for billing and administration processes in line with team procedures; taking responsibility for delegating work to junior solicitors, trainee solicitor and /or the group legal administrator(s) where appropriate; providing guidance on legal issues for more junior members of the team where appropriate; managing cash and disbursement control and working on ad hoc projects as and when required.

4. Helping to develop team capability to the point it can be marketed more extensively to existing clients not yet using the service and/or new prospects. This will mean: looking for ways to innovate with existing streams of ancillary work, building your own personal reputation and building eminence for the firm by developing existing and new contacts and referrers of work; taking the lead on article writing in your team; joining relevant associations and seeking out positions of responsibility to support your personal ambitions to become or maintain your position as a leader in your field and encouraging others in the team to build the team reputation.

5. Developing self-organisational and interpersonal skills so that: work is prioritised and progressed as efficiently as possible; new business is effectively introduced and managed into the firm; the partners in the Group are sufficiently aware of your workload and specific issues which arise on your matters and you maintain a flexible and proactive approach to work and good working relationships with external institutions including clients and any professional referrers to promote our client's brand in the marketplace.

6. Ensuring that professional services provided by the team are of the highest quality, that client care standards are effectively maintained, and that work completed meets the appropriate standards. To ensure that the files are maintained properly and that matters are progressed in line with the firm’s standard up to and including billing and file closing.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Degree educated 2:1 or above
Strong LPC pass
Skills and Experience

Comfortable in drafting and undertaking advisory work for medium to large scale organisations
Good communication
Business development skills and experience
IT literate (self – sufficient in using document management systems, MS Office and Internet)
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law
Strong corporate experience with evidence of working on complex transactions and experience of working with larger clients
Ability to manage corporate transactions, subject to Partner’s supervision
Experience of managing / supervising juniors

This position is being offered at 30 hours up to full time, depending on the requirements of the candidate. Hybrid working is available outside of spending some of your working week at either (or both) the Reading or Uxbridge office. 25 days (fte) annual leave, pension and a variety of other benefits are available as well as a competitive salary.
